REJIG
Recycled Textiles and Community Sewing Sessions
REJIG is a community project based in Darlington, combining textiles, recycling, and the power of art for the soul. Friendly, welcoming sessions see folks of all ages and abilities mingling happily, chatting, drinking tea, and completing all sorts of projects on a mixture of electric and vintage hand sewing machines.

I've worked with REJIG on an ongoing basis, helping them initially with a logo and visual identity, and then afterwards with a variety of promotional material, website design, and social content.
I aimed for a "vintage" feel for REJIG's logo, harking back to 40s and 50s sewing supplies packaging, and emphasising the traditional elements of the brand. However, I also wanted it to feel clean – it would have to work in one colour and at different sizes. To achieve this, I used clear symmetry, and a combination of delicate shapes with solid areas of fill and negative space.
"THANKS ELLIE FOR THE GREAT VINTAGE FEEL YOU'VE CREATED ON THE REJIG POSTCARDS. YOU BROUGHT OUR IDEA TO LIFE IN A REALLY STYLISH WAY AND THEY ALWAYS BRING US LOTS OF VERY POSITIVE ATTENTION WHEREVER THEY ARE DISPLAYED!"

I was asked to create a series of images and animations to be shared on social media, advertising the various courses and classes available, as well as partnerships with other companies. We decided quite early on to use a limited palette of bold colours in most REJIG marketing, to make the brand instantly recognisable and appealing.

The animation shown was designed specifically to evoke the idea of collage, as it was advertising an "altered books" workshop day. I used a mixture of photography, vector assets and painted textures to capture this idea.
